Brimbank's Mayor our latest HEP Hero

3 June 2019

Mayor of Brimbank City Council Cr Lucinda Congreve is our latest HEP Hero. She joins a group of extraordinary people who are dedicated to raising knowledge and awareness about viral hepatitis.

Lucinda's strong and vocal support of Hepatitis Victoria's HEPReady workshop in March was key in making the event a success  -over 40 health and community workers from the Brimbank ares attended the session to learn about the latest developments in fighting viral hepatitis.

Lucinda is an accountant by profession but she left the corporate world to work for the betterment of the community.

"I am a mum with two kids, and Mayor of one of the most diverse cities in Australia and I am passionate about improving public health," Lucinda said.

"As a leader of a municipality with one of the highest rates of viral hepatitis and I want to help change the statistics," she said.

Lucinda said she was shocked to learn of the levels of viral hepatitis in her region.

"Brimbank has some poor outcomes in terms of health statistics and other social issues, but if I can help to improve people’s health and lives, I will."

Another recent HEP Hero is Hepatitis Victoria volunteer Sambath My, who has been doing a fantastic job mobilising awareness in the Khmer-speaking community in Victoria. Read more about Sambath's story.
